Here are the first 3 photos showing my painting progress.

VALOUR – the story of a painting.

This is the first of 3 photos I’ve uploaded to the WATERCOLOURS section where I’m logging the progress of this work.

Updated THE DEFENCE OF RORKE”S DRIFT on the WATERCOLOURS page

I’m happy with my progress on this work. The light here in Spain at this time of year is perfect and I’m achieving nuances of colour I could only dream of in the grey light of many autumn days in England. For me, working under electric lights can’t compare to natural light.

I’ve added 2 photos to the RORKE”S DRIFT page. The first is a rather feint line drawing of the central figures and to give a better idea I also added this:

PENCIL STUDY for TONAL VALUES

It’s the pencil study from my sketchbook.

LT. GONVILLE BROMHEAD added to THE DEFENCE OF RORKE’S DRIFT page

Click here to follow a work in progress – ‘VALOUR‘, a preliminary title.

This is my pencil drawing of Lt. Gonville Bromhead. I depict him as I imagine he felt on that day in 1879 as he prepared for the Zulu attack – tense, alert, determined, resilient, anxious but unafraid.

New MARBLED BOOK added to BOOKS page

So very pretty – I can see the delight of a young girl or special friend on receiving this book as a gift. This smaller book measures 145 x 112mm so will pop into a purse or pocket. Coptic-bound with 8 sections of top quality laid paper – perfect for sketching or journaling; notes, recipes, addresses, dreams, hopes or wishes.

New Watercolour – Capt. Younghusband at Isandlwana

Added to the WATERCOLOURS page is a new painting I’ve been working on for some months. It is inspired by our visit to Isandlwana where the British suffered one of their worst defeats in colonial history. All wars engender acts of great bravery and this painting is my tribute to Captain Younghusband of the 24th Foot.
